Summer travel
program
For
current Sixth, Seventh & Eighth Graders
As an
enhancement to the academic curriculum at Country Day, we are excited to offer
two educational travel opportunities during the summer of 2011. These trips
will be outdoor ed, summer camp, and classroom curriculum rolled into one
phenomenal travel experience with purpose.
In Alaska
children will climb, kayak, raft, and hike their way into classrooms of
geology, wildlife biology, Native American studies, and environmental studies.
In Costa Rica, we’ll immerse ourselves in a Latin American community and
participate in a meaningful service learning project for four days, in addition
to hiking a volcano,
whitewater rafting, and
ziplining the canopies with the jungle flora and fauna.
These trips
will be operated by Sustainable Horizon in Costa Rica and International
Wilderness Leadership School in Alaska. They have been custom-designed to serve
the experiential educational goals for our students. Spots are open first for
ACDS students, then students from other schools may apply. Chaperones from our
teaching community will participate and travel with the children.
