Summer Activities for Children

We are often asked whether Country Day has any summer programs. Unfortunately not! But here are some great options for locals and visitors in the Roaring Fork Valley. Also check out: listings at kidconnector 

Summer tutoring, K-Third Grade


Alexandra Hughes, Second Grade teacher, is available for tutoring June 26-August 1. She will help students in Kindergarten to Third Grade with reading, writing, and math. She is trained and experienced in the Orton Gillingham reading program, Lucy Calkins reading and writing programs, and an array of math programs as well. Back to School Farm Camp August 12-16


Children entering Kindergarten through Second Grade are invited to a summer day camp at the Stokes' Farm in Carbondale. Lots of fun activities with ACDS teachers Mary Stokes, Christina Schluter, and Shelley Meisler. Cost is $100 per day for a 9 am to 2 pm program daily the week of August 12-16. Mountain biking camps from AVSC


This summer, Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club instructors is offering more mountain biking instruction than ever. There are FREE Intro to Biking sessions earlier in the summer, then three-day Devo 1 and Devo 2 Biking sessions running into early August. Led by AVSC coaches, groups ride from the clubhouse in Aspen and from North Face Park in Carbondale. This is ideal practice for ACDS Fourth and Fifth Graders for your fall mountain biking expedition to Western Colorado. Info at teamavsc.org

Fencing: try something new!


Come learn to fence this summer! Beginner fencing camps introduce students to this exciting Olympic sport that is as safe as swimming or cross country skiing but that has all the thrill of a duel. All equipment is provided, with options for continuing to an intermediate camp in August and/or classes in the fall. Camps at the Snowmass Rec Center are for ages 8-18, 9 am to 1 pm every day for all sessions. Beginner Camps are $350/week June 17-21 and August 5-9; Intermediate Camp is $350 for the week of August 12-16. Click here to register.

Summer tutoring, Lower School grades


Christina Schluter, Kindergarten teacher, is available for tutoring in summer. Fun music lessons with Jan Garrett


Noted local musician Jan Garrett (mom of ACDS's own Annie Garrett!) is now accepting new students, ages 6-years-old to adult. She teaches piano-by-ear, authentic voice, creative songwriting, and harmony singing. Aspen Music Festival children's activities


The Maroon Bel Canto program is on hiatus this summer, but the Aspen Music Festival & School has plenty of fun musical opportunities for children and families throughout the summer, ranging from the popular "Gotta Move" sessions to discounted festival tickets for children and teens. Aspen Art Museum


AAM's summer workshops develop an understanding of contemporary art through fun hands-on projects, gallery explorations, and off-site excursions that culminate in a student exhibition, performance, or party. Theatre Aspen Summer Experience

Kids Rock Climbing on Independence Pass

The Snowmass Rec Center is a gem - convenient for families living or visiting in Snowmass Village, with a beautiful outdoor pool and skate park. Earth Keepers Community Day Camp


Aspen's Farm Collaborative has farmyard experiences at the farm park at Cozy Point Ranch. There are nature discovery, gardening, and even programs with alpacas, goats, and chickens! Anderson Ranch Arts Center


Young artists ages 4 to 17 have a whole campus full of artmaking opportunities at their fingertips at this inspiring location in Snowmass Village. This year's programs feature 3D printing, "Bauhaus Bonanza," a ceramics workshop where you make your own tea set, and even a photography workshop called "Light: science + magic." There's always something fun happening at the local libraries: reading programs, field trips, story hours, workshops, playdates, and more. Mountain Kids Academy

The Aspen Center for Environmental Studies is abuzz with children's voices and laughter during the summer months.
