On the Journey
news reel: stories of People, places, and learning AT Aspen Country Day School
Monday, February 26, 2018:
Txell Pedragosa and Shannon Meyer from Response https://www.responsehelps.org/ met with Eighth Graders today to discuss relationships. They emphasized that creating healthy relationships is one of the most important life skills we can all learn.
Discussing the foundations of trust, support, respect, compromise, and communication as the building blocks of strong relationships, Txell presented video clips, discussion, and an activity that included scenarios that students judged as "ok" or "not ok."
As one student put it, "We hear about this stuff happening, but this presentation made it seem more 'real.'"
This session is just one example of how the ACDS social-emotional learning program provides information and guidance for Middle School students as they get ready to move out into the world beyond ACDS -- high school, teen relationships, and all the complexities of growing up.
