On the Journey
news reel: stories of People, places, and learning AT Aspen Country Day School
Milkshake Day, Burger Day, even Sushi Day. And more frequent grilled cheese, pasta, and chicken soup. These are some of the recent additions to the menus in the Aspen Country Day dining hall since Chef Noelle invited children to write their suggestions on cards. She collects the cards daily and began to implement some of the suggestions right away. Responses are posted on the big blackboard as you enter the serving area.
"The children have really taken this seriously," says Noelle Zablosky, who began leading the Sage Dining Services staff at ACDS in January 2018. "They have many thoughtful suggestions -- as many as 50 to 100 every day since we put out the cards!"
Here are some recent ideas. The spelling can be inventive, but the concepts are creative and delicious: "pot of ris" (rice) and "brawny" (you can tell it's a brownie by the picture). And someone felt strongly enough about spaghetti and meatballs to take the time to make 10 requests on the same day. "That will definitely be on the menu next week," said Chef Noelle.
