On the Journey
news reel: stories of People, places, and learning AT Aspen Country Day School
There are plenty of trends in the yoga world -- yoga on paddleboards, yoga with baby goats, even yoga with snakes. But this has to be the best yoga of all -- a class all in Spanish with the First Graders demonstrating basic poses. It's all part of the World Languages curriculum in Lower School at ACDS, where the focus is on building fluency, learning (and using!) vocabulary, and enjoying a new language.
World Language study at ACDS begins in the earliest grades, and as Kindergarteners move up to First Grade, they choose to study either Spanish or French throughout their Country Day journey. Each year, the frequency and depth of instruction increases, so that by the time they graduate from Eighth Grade, children are ready for advanced level World Language classes in high school.
But right now, in Lower School, language study is pure fun, as you'll see in these videos. They each feature students actually using the language they are learning, in settings such as a restaurant, a pretend classroom, and even an international newscast. We hope you have as much fun watching them as the children had making them!
