Spring idea: exploring Paonia to learn about food, nutrition, and agriculture
The Fifth Grade's recent overnight field trip to the Paonia-Hotchkiss area was a huge success. Each year, the grade studies nutrition and food in science class with teacher Brett Nelson, creating a restaurant project to find out more about where our food comes from, how it makes its way to our tables, and how to make healthy choices. What better place to investigate that topic than nearby in Paonia, where a thriving agricultural community welcomed the class for two days of hands-on learning. See the photos here.
The children toured farms and orchards, helped out with farm chores, met some adorable baby goats, prepared a farm-to-table dinner at a community kitchen, did some spring planting, and even learned to milk a goat.
