On the Journey
news reel: stories of People, places, and learning AT Aspen Country Day School
In keeping with our annual school-wide theme of Sustainability this year, our all-school Day of Service will be on Earth Day, April 22. For the past three years, Aspen Country Day School students have had a special day set aside for participation in community-oriented activities. These have been on campus, in town, and at the local assisted living home, the animal shelter, the homeless center, and more. This Day of Service has traditionally been held on the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, but renovations at the Wheeler Opera House threw off our usual schedule.
The goal: to find hands-on ways that students can participate in activities that have a tangible impact -- for the environment, for our community -- and to help children become responsible citizens in the Roaring Fork Valley and the world.
We are excited that this year, our Day of Service will be on Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22. This will be a full day of school. The spring date gives more options for projects, such as trail-building with Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers or other outside endeavors. Teachers and students are brainstorming ideas.
