The Physical Education program strives to develop in each student the physical coordination, the sense of fair play, and an understanding of the rudimentary rules and strategies necessary for success in both individual and team sports. The program includes a variety of sports to build the foundational skills for success in later sports activities. The main component of our winter program is skiing once a week on one of Aspen’s four mountains. Middle School students build on these skills and, as much as possible, we incorporate the outdoors into our program, and work with the Outdoor Education department to prepare students for upcoming trips (hiking, mountain biking, ski touring).
As a result of an Aspen Country Day School education, students will:
value the role of regular physical activity in the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle
learn to play fairly and respect diverse physical abilities
understand that choices made today may affect their health in the future
develop social skills that promote positive communication and conflict resolution
