Financial Aid instructions
Aspen Country Day School strives to make an independent education financially accessible for as many families as possible. We maximize and allocate our available funds to leverage the most effective and equitable distribution of tuition assistance. However, our budget for financial aid is not unlimited. Funds may not be available to cover the need requested.
How to apply for financial aid
for the 2017-2018 school year
The priority consideration deadlines have passed. Applicants submit the following items.
ITEM 1: Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS)
All families are expected to contribute, to the best of their ability, to their children's education. To determine the most equitable and appropriate share of tuition, we use the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) from the School & Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS). This is a secure, third-party service used by independent schools nationwide. SSS comes back to the school with a determination of how much a family could be reasonably expected to contribute to tuition.
Go to sss.nais.org to complete and submit your information. You will be asked to enter a school code: ACDS's SSS code is 1403.
SSS offers a helpful step-by-step guide and on-demand webinars to help you complete the PFS. Any unusual family circumstances should be explained in the Notes section. Please be sure to follow these instructions to completion before you submit the statement or your financial aid request will be delayed until all necessary information is provided.
ITEM 2: ACDS Financial Aid Request Form
This is the formal request for aid from Aspen Country Day School. Here is the form to complete and sign (one per child applying for aid). You will be asked to upload this form as part of the PFS process (on the same SSS website). Click here to download the form in advance.
ITEM 3: Your 2015 tax returns
All those applying for aid are required to submit a signed copy of the parents’ form 1040 and all schedules, a copy of W-2 forms, and K-1 forms (if applicable). You will need to scan your tax returns and upload them to the SSS website.
BY April 15, 2017
ITEM 4: Your 2016 tax returns
These also get uploaded to the secure SSS website. All financial aid awards are provisional and are confirmed only after review of signed 2016 tax returns, including all forms, schedules, and K-1 forms (if applicable).
Be on time: Families who miss any of these deadlines will not receive priority consideration by the School’s financial aid committee. We will continue to accept completed financial aid applications after this date, and awards may be made at any time if funds remain available.
Honor confidentiality: Aspen Country Day School assesses the financial aid needs of each family with thoughtful and fair evaluations of that family’s unique situation. The process and outcome are confidential. We do not share a family’s financial aid information with anyone outside our financial aid committee, which includes only the Director of Admission & Financial Aid, the Assistant Director of Admission & Financial Aid, and the Head of School, with the possibility of assistance from the Director of Finance. This group keeps aid information confidential, and whether a family is receiving financial aid or not, we require that all financial aid matters and awards remain private and confidential. Please do not offer any, nor inquire of others’, award information.
