Learn to teach by teaching

Intensive, full-time, two-year program

The Associate Teacher Program at Aspen Country Day School is dedicated to inspiring and preparing the next generation of independent day school teachers. Under the mentorship of dedicated faculty and the program director, Associate Teachers work as part of a Lower School grade-level team. They are fully immersed in the daily life of the classroom and of the entire school.

Applications are now closed. Please click here for more information or to download information about the program for future cohorts.

Associate Teachers gain classroom experience while developing and refining their approach and philosophy to teaching. They share in lesson planning, teaching, assessing students, and communicating with parents. A multi-layered support network includes consistent conversations with mentor teachers, weekly meetings with the program director, regularly scheduled faculty meetings and school-wide professional development. In addition, Associate Teachers participate in monthly professional development workshops on topics directly related to the practice of teaching. At the conclusion of the program, Associate Teachers should feel confident and prepared to begin as homeroom teachers in classrooms of their own.

Participants are immersed in the life of the school and are valued members of the Aspen Country Day School faculty and community. Associate Teachers report to the Director of the Associate Teacher Program. This is a 10-month, paid position with full benefits, renewable for a second academic year following a successful first year in the program. In the second year, Associate Teachers are guided and supported as they pursue the next steps in their teaching careers.
