The goal of the drama program is twofold. First, we aspire to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of theatre and performance. To that end, students learn to connect to and deliver lines, to move around the stage with intention, to understand and recognize the structure of a play, and to be a respectful and appreciative audience member. All Lower School students participate in the annual Shakespeare Festival in the fall semester.
The second goal of the program is less tangible, but perhaps more important. Through the study of theatre and the practice of performance, we hope to instill a sense of confidence and empathy in our students, as a means to gain a better sense of self.
